A proud graduate of Indiana State University, James was a dedicated member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He cherished the lifelong friendships he made there and especially enjoyed attending ISU basketball games with his fraternity brothers. His passion for learning and community extended throughout his life.
James worked part‑time at Market District, where he was known for his warm smile and genuine kindness. He had many hobbies and interests, including stamp collecting, and he was an avid fan of IndyCar racing, the Indianapolis Colts, Notre Dame, and the Indiana Pacers. Above all, James will be remembered as a man of exceptional kindness who would go out of his way to help anyone.
James was a devoted member of St. Luke Catholic Church and an active participant in the Indiana State Alumni Association.
James is survived by his loving wife, Diane K. Bigler; his siblings, Suzanne (David) Henke of Dallas, Texas; Jan (Rhonda) Bigler of Evansville, Indiana; and Bonnie (Mark) Hinds of Anderson, Indiana; as well as many nieces and nephews who dearly loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Christy Bigler.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 10:30–11:30 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Indianapolis, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made in James’s honor to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Indianapolis.
