Larry Edward Harris of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 14, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on November 24, 1939, Larry lived a full and meaningful life marked by love, service, and curiosity that never faded.
Larry is survived by his two sons, Roger Harris of Atlanta, Georgia, and Bradley Harris of Hickory, North Carolina; four beloved grandchildren, Devon, Zachary, Lindsay and Wilson Harris; and two cherished great-grandchildren, Gracie and Wells Edward Harris, both of whom Larry was thrilled to meet—thanks to modern technology—before his passing.
From his first marriage, Larry was blessed with his two sons, Roger and Brad. Though that marriage ended in divorce in 1990, life came full circle when Larry reconnected with his high school classmate, Nancy Arbuckle, while planning their 40th high school reunion. The two married in 1998 and shared 26 wonderful years together before Nancy’s passing in February 2024.
Larry proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Intrepid, a chapter of his life that instilled in him deep pride and an enduring sense of patriotism. Following his service, he graduated from Purdue University and remained a proud Boilermaker throughout his life. Larry went on to build a successful career with IBM Corporation beginning in the mid-1960s, ultimately taking early retirement in 1990. Never one to sit still, he later pursued a variety of ventures and, with Nancy, founded Cruise Planners in 1998, combining their love of travel and adventure. Larry proudly served the communities in which he lived for many decades as a Mason and as a Shriner.
A lifelong fan of sports, Larry was an accomplished baseball player and talented pitcher in his younger years. He loved cheering on the Indianapolis Colts and could often be found following his favorite teams with the same competitive spirit he brought to the field.
Larry will be remembered for his gentle soul, sharp intellect, and unwavering kindness. His warmth touched everyone who knew him, and his thoughtful perspective on life remained a gift to his family and friends until his final days.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion or to the IU Health Foundation – Palliative Care Fund at IU North in Carmel, IN.
A memorial service to celebrate Larry’s life and legacy will be held on January 9, 2026, at Leppert Mortuaries – Nora. A visitation from 10:00am - 11:00am will be followed by a service from 11:00am – 11:30am.
