Lloyd Carson Lyons, age 79, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022. Born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, on August 1, 1942, Lloyd moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he remained a lifelong resident.
Lloyd was a 1960 graduate of Shortridge High School and a graduate of Indiana University, with a degree in Economics and Philosophy. He was a proud member of the Alpha chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. After college, he began his extensive career in banking at The Indiana National Bank, moving up through the ranks in different capacities until his retirement from Bank One/Chase.
Throughout his banking career, Lloyd was always an active civic volunteer, serving on committees and Boards of Directors at agencies such as the United Way, Training Inc, Early Learning IN (formerly Day Nursery Association), the Indianapolis Marion County Library Foundation, and the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. He was a graduate of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Program, and a member 100 Black Men. He also enjoyed teaching at the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin, and the Pennsylvania Graduate School of Banking at Denison College.
When Lloyd wasn’t working to improve banking or volunteering to improve his community, he was a devoted father and a fun, loving husband. He coached the Fall Creek Little League and Youth Hockey Association when Lloyd Jr., Shannon and Chris were young. He was the family lecturer, protector, yard guy, swim teacher, practical joker, white-glove tester, and hypnotist. He was Wendy’s travel buddy on adventures in Culebra,PR, China, many beautiful islands, Spain and most especially in Italia. He was a great cook and a wonderful host to friends and family over our years.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Wendy Ann Lyons, his sons Lloyd C. Lyons Jr. and Christopher B. Lyons, his daughter Shannon E. Houston, his sister Gayle Hawthorne (Corky), and his stepsons Seth C. Greathouse, Cy D. Greathouse, and Scott D. Reeder (Tiffany). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Lauren Lyons, Caitlin Wynn, Devon Wynn (Grace), Hayden Houston, and step granddaughters Skye Ross (Taylor), and Makenna Lynch (Liam).
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents Laura Carson Lyons and Fitzhugh Lyons, his sister Maryam Lyons, and his biological father, Lloyd G. Ormes.
Lloyd was a thoughtful and optimistic man who saw the best in everyone. He was comfortable being in the background encouraging, cheering, mentoring, and challenging us all to be the best we can be.
He has asked that contributions in his memory be made to The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Marion County Library Foundation, the Center for Leadership Development (CLD), Early Learning Indiana, or to an organization that is close to your heart.
Buona notte amore mio ~ Wendy
