

in Clinton, IN to the late Domenic and Anna (Randolph) Giovanini.
Mari Anne graduated from Lanphier High School in Springfield, IL. Upon graduating, Mari Anne boarded a bus and headed to Texas to answer the call for the need for wartime nurses, earning her associate nursing certificate. It was there that she met the love of her life, Hayden Millican, Jr. They were married in 1949. Hayden and Mari Anne relocated to Indianapolis where she furthered her education at Indiana University, earning her Master’s Degree in Nursing. She provided radiation therapy early in her career, and went on to bedside care at Winona Hospital and the VA Hospital. Mari Anne also was involved as a public health nurse in the Indianapolis area. Undoubtedly, her sharp wit and strong convictions served her well in her professional life.
When Mari Anne was not working, she was serving her God and her family. She was a longtime parishioner and volunteer at St. Luke Catholic Church. She was also a familiar face at St. Augustine Home for Aged, and spent decades supporting Little Sisters of the Poor in many endeavors. Mari Anne was a former member of the St. Augustine Guild and an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. She also had volunteered at Fatima Retreat House.
Upon retirement, Mari Anne loved traveling and shopping. She was a great bargain-hunter, and had impeccable taste. Mari Anne loved animals, especially her cats Tiger and Prissy. She enjoyed playing bridge and socializing with beloved friends. She was also an avid knitter. In more recent times, Mari Anne thoroughly enjoyed watching birds and caring for flowers.
Mari Anne was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hayden; devoted son, Randall, and beloved brother, John Charles Giovanini.
Survivors include nieces Dominica Ann Green and Mary Catherine Giovanini, nephew John David Giovanini, and many loving cousins.
Funeral services for Mari Anne will be Monday, April 27th at 1:00 at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-1.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in Mari Anne’s name to St. Augustine Home for Aged - Little Sisters of the Poor.
