Mary Kathryn McSoley passed peacefully into heaven on January 27th, 2025. Born Mary Kathryn Taylor on October 8th, 1930 in Marion, Indiana, she was the beloved daughter of Mary Lucille Atkinson and John Wesley Taylor. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph Edward McSoley, her sons Michael Keith McSoley and Timothy O’Rourke McSoley, her brother John (Mary) Taylor and her sister Joan (Dick) Eshler. She enjoyed spending summers on her grandparents’ farm, riding her bike, making her own clothes, and playing tennis. Mary attended Manual High School and graduated in 1948. Initially, attending Butler University for bookkeeping and active as a flutist in the Butler band, she was swept off her feet by fellow classmate, track star, Marine, and aspiring pharmacist, Joseph Edward McSoley, and they married in 1950 and were married for forty-six years. Mary ran the soda fountain and was a bookkeeper for McSoley Pharmacy while raising four children. Mary also became active in women’s pharmaceutical associations including becoming the President of WONARD. She led and served at her church in many capacities including as a deacon, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, as well as many other areas. She was involved in many Bible studies, civic organizations, support groups, and Red Hat Society. She shared her faith and love of worshipping God with her family and everyone she encountered. Mary always enjoyed gardening, music, theatre, art, crafts, travel, and spending time with her family. She was an active participant in her grandchildren’s lives by attending their extracurricular activities and performances. She was kind to a fault and generous beyond measure. This generosity included taking her extended family on multiple beautiful vacations. And with the help of treasured caregivers, she was able to stay in her own home and stay engaged in many activities in her later years. Mary will be deeply missed, but we rest in the knowledge that she has been united with her Heavenly Father, through her faith in Jesus Christ. Mary’s generous, kind, godly heart lives on through her children, Tom (Betsy), Susan (Jim) Foust, and Carol (Eric) Sluder and grandchildren Jake (Jenn) Reardon-McSoley, Abby Reardon, Matt, Joe (Maria), Christine (Jonathan) Dawe, Kathryn (Sandy) Montero, Sara (Michael) Spears, Brian (Naomi) Foust, Mary and Anna Sluder.
