Nécrologie de Mary Josephine O'Hara
Mary Josephine O’Hara, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020. Mary Jo was born January 12, 1935 in Indianapolis to her devoted parents, the late James J. and Amelia (Feldhake) O’Hara. Her educational experiences at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School and St. Agnes Academy, and later Butler University fostered Mary’s impressive intellect and aided in the development of lifelong friendships. At Butler, Mary served as president of the Alpha Tau chapter of Delta Gamma and was a charter member of the Mortar Board Chapter. After graduating in 1956, Mary enjoyed a thirty-five year career with U.S. Steel, working for regional sales offices in both Indianapolis and Troy, Michigan. After her retirement in 1993, Mary moved back to Indianapolis where she was a longtime and dedicated member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Everyone who knew Mary was in awe of her memory. She was a natural historian and storyteller. She regaled friends and family with vivid glimpses of life in Indy during World War II, the shenanigans of Butler coeds in the fifties, the joys and difficulties of being a working woman in a male-dominated industry, the pleasures of travel to many destinations. No less impressive was her savvy market watching and investing. Mary was always ready to discuss the latest news on the stock market or local business dealings. Mary is survived by many dear cousins, nieces and nephews and their families. She was very close with her cousins Carolyn Finn Welch and Marty Finn, and their kids and grandkids, including Bob and Sue Welch, Beth Welch, Maura and John Abernethy, Stephen Finn, John Finn, and Kathryn Finn. She was a beloved member of her extended family and will be dearly missed by all. The wonderful care she received at Marquette Manor over the years, and particularly in the last several weeks was a source of solace for all who could not visit with her during this trying time.
