Pamela passed away at St. Vincent Hospital on August 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 17, 1948, to the late Barbara Jean (Frakes) and Major Blackman.
Pam attended IPS School #87 and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1966. She earned her degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University in 1970. That same year, she married the love of her life, Jesse Elliott, on August 29, 1970, beginning a partnership that spanned 55 years.
Pam began her teaching career in 1970 with substitute positions at IPS School #74. She paused her professional work to raise her sons, returning to education in 1978 after earning her Master’s Degree in Education in 1974. She taught in several Washington Township schools—including Delaware Trails, Harcourt, Grandview, and Crooked Creek—before securing a full-time role at Chapel Glen Elementary in Wayne Township in 1982. She remained there for 32 years, retiring in 2014 after a remarkable 36-year career.
Pam was a passionate educator who believed deeply in shaping young minds to become the leaders and parents of tomorrow. Her dedication was unwavering—she often said she would have taught for free. Her impact was recognized through multiple “Seniors’ Choice Awards,” given by graduating classes at Ben Davis High School to teachers who made the greatest positive influence on their educational journey.
Beyond the classroom, Pam was a devoted caregiver to her great-uncle Lanie, aunts Doris and Jane, and her parents Barbara and Major. She found joy in reading, exchanging emails with friends, dining out with Jesse, and offering her time to children and the elderly. She was a faithful member of St. Luke Catholic Church.
Pam is survived by her husband Jesse Elliott; sons J. Brian (Stacy) Elliott and M. Greg Elliott; grandson J. Brian Jr.; her chosen daughter Christina A. Snider; and a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and thousands of former students whose lives she touched.
A celebration of Pam’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, with interment at Washington Park North Cemetery.
