Peter Gerard Gundy Sr.

Peter Gerard Gundy Sr., 70, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Monday, August 4th, 2025. Born on August 20th, 1954 to John R. and E. Joanne Gundy, Peter was the youngest of four Gundy children. He is survived by his wife Debra Lewis Gundy, son Peter Gundy Jr. (Marian Walsh), grandchildren Samuel and Isabelle Gundy, daughter Becky Gundy, and brother Michael Gundy (Lila). Preceded in death by brother Mark Gundy and sister Kathleen Gundy Rayburn. Also survived by twelve in-laws and thirty nieces and nephews. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Peter was beloved by so many.

Peter attended Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School and Indiana University. In 1971, at the age of 17, Peter met his wife Debbie. Married in 1978, Peter and Debbie were the ultimate partners and had two children Peter Jr. (1984) and Becky (1988). After a brief career as a professional racquetball player, Peter ultimately found his passion in financial advising in 1983. Being a financial advisor was much more than a career for Peter. He genuinely loved his work, his team, and the relationships he built with his clients over the four decades he worked at Dean Witter, Merril Lynch and UBS. He was known for his great advice and a unique talent for teaching. Peter expertly balanced professional success with prioritizing his family. He loved coaching his children’s sports teams and generously shared his time and wisdom with so many. He had a deep love for the Indianapolis 500 and the many traditions he built and shared with life-long friends. A member and neighborhood resident of Woodland Country Club since 2017, Peter was able to indulge his passion for golf and socializing. He loved to discuss the markets, wine, and his favorite recipes with anyone he encountered. Family, friends, colleagues, and clients will remember Peter as a distinguished storyteller, a generous coach and mentor, a truly devoted husband and father, and a great man.

Visitation: Thursday, August 7th, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Leppert Mortuaries - Nora (740 East 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240)

Funeral Mass: Friday, August 8th, 2025 at 10:30 am at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church (10655 Haverstick Rd, Carmel, IN 46033)
