Sarah H. Dixon was born Sarah Louise Hale in Salem, Virginia on May 4, 1924 and died peacefully on March 29, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Leonard Via Hale and Ruth Hartman Hale. She was preceded in death by brothers; Leonard Via Hale, Jr., Philip Harvey Hale and Richard Gilbert Hale. Growing up in Roanoke, Virginia, she graduated from Jefferson High School. During World War II, she served as a Navy Wave stationed at the Alameda, California Naval Air Station. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Julian M. Dixon, also from Roanoke, Virginia. Survivors include Daughters, Julianne Fritsch (Steve), Jane Chronister (Bob), and Son, Scott (Jody); seven Grandchildren; Robert and Edward Fritsch, Nicole Wiley, Amanda Ayers and Samantha Callahan, Sarah Sullivan and Clayton Chronister, and nine Great Grandchildren. Since becoming a “Hoosier” in 1952, she has been active in many recreational and charitable organizations. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church. She retired after 25 years as a Realtor. In 1962, she co-founded the Antiquarian Club and has been an active member. She recently became a member of the Caroline Harrison Chapter of the D.A.R. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, 8600 N. College Avenue at a date and time to be announced following the cancellation of government mandates for social distancing.
