Viola F. Willhite, 101, of Indianapolis, passed away September 11, 2021. Viola was born July 12, 1920 in Elsberry, Missouri to the late Wesley C. and Lucy V. (Stickleman) Triplett. She is survived by her two sons, Harold Willhite and Robert (late Emma) Willhite; three grandchildren, Sandy (Bruce) McCarson, Julie (Randy) Sanders, and Tammie (Mike) Vanderipe; six great grandchildren, Taylor (Jeremy) Doty, Dalton McCarson, Levi Sanders, Evan Sanders, Colby Sanders, and Josh Vanderipe. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ervin Willhite; two brothers, and one sister. Viola worked for the government for almost 23 years, taking on many clerical jobs at the Department of Finance at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis. Viola was always very active and loved to be around people. She enjoyed crafting and was very active at Union Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the “United Methodist Women” and “Young at Heart” groups. Viola enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV. They were members of the Capitol City Campers Club and traveled to every state, including Alaska and Hawaii. For a while they were snowbirds and would travel to Florida or Texas for the winter. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 3 PM at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. Visitation will also be held on Friday afternoon at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 PM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the staff of Seasons Hospice for their care and compassion.
