Alexander Gillis

Alexander Gillis, 74, Upper Margaree. We regret to announce the passing of Alexander Gillis on Thursday, December 14, 2017 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Alexander was born March 31, 1943 in Inverness, Nova Scotia, the eldest child of the late Alexander Joseph Gillis (d. 1963) and Mary (MacLellan) Gillis (d. 1991). We have lost a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret (MacDonald) Gillis; his beloved daughter Sheila; his sons, Alexander, Stephen, Patrick, John, Douglas and Matthew; his grandchildren, Alexander Stephen (and his mother Monica MacLean), Paige (and her mother Shelly Cameron), Hunter, Keith, Addison (and her mother Vanessa Marshall and her sister Kennedy Marshall), Gregory (and his mother Sarah Jane MacInnis). He is survived by his brothers and sisters D.D. (Annabelle) Gillis, Josephine Gillis, Mary Flora (Stephen) Gillis, Anne (Hugh) MacDonald, Minnie Gillis, Stewart (Mary Catherine) Gillis, Earl Gillis, Angus (Kaye) Gillis, Rhoda (Stan) Mills, John Gillis, Cassie (Hugh) MacDougall, Susan Gillis, Stephen (Mary) Gillis, Hughena Parlee, Theresa Wilcox, Archie (Ruth) Gillis; many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Olive in 1978. We wish to thank Dr. Bennett and Dr. Lok and all the nursing staff for all their fantastic care over the past two months. Visitation will be Monday, December 18, 2017 from 2 -4 and 7 -9 in Inverness Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2017 in St Joseph’s Church, SW Margaree. Family flowers only please, donations may be made to St Joseph’s Parish Cemetery Committee or to Inverness Hospital Palliative Care.
