

MacKinnon Anne Catherine-88. The family of the late Anne Catherine MacKinnon announce her passing on Wednesday November 14, 2012, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. She was born in North Highlands, Inverness Co., Cape Breton on January 5, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Lauchlan and Margaret (MacEachen) MacKinnon. She was a member of Stella Maris Church Inverness. Aunt "Anne" was a member of the Canadian Women’s Army Corps during the Second World War and a member of Captain Angus L. Macdonald branch 132 of Inverness. After basic training in Trenton Ont. she was assigned to Ottawa Ont. and then Halifax. When the war ended she went to St. John N. B. to take hair dressing. Upon graduation from the Professional College of Beauticians, she worked in Quebec City, New Waterford, Sydney and Glace Bay, returning to Inverness to work at Freemans Pharmacy until her retirement. Her strong faith always showed through especially in times of illness and tragedy. She was always there for her family and loved us dearly especially her grand nieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews. Aunt Anne is survived by her sister, Lucy Bissonnette, Quebec City; special niece, Margaret (Sandy) Beaton, Antigonish; 20 nieces and 19 nephews. Anne was predeceassed by brothers, Dannie, R.D., Alex Hughie, Lauchie and Alex R "Mim", sisters, Mary Catherine, Katie MacPhee, Margaret MacDonnell and Maggie MacPherson Holden.Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home on Friday November 16, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Stella Maris Church, Inverness with Fr. Duncan MacIsaac officiating, burial to follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stella Maris Church Repair Fund, Inverness or to a charity of your choice.
