On January 9, 2020, before unexpectedly passing to her home in Heaven, Annie Mae spent her final day living her life to the fullest surrounded by those who cared for her. Born at home in Mabou on September 24, 1931, Annie Mae was the third child of Malcolm (Finlay R) and Cassie (Sandy Finlay) MacDonald. Annie Mae is survived by her daughter, Donna and son-in-law Stephen Doiron; sisters, Catherine (Alex deceased), Christena (Chris), Jenny (Jack); brothers, Pat (Marie), Leo (Cassie), and Herbie (Gina); special step-grandchildren, Jillian (Roy), Meghan (Wilker), Jonathan, Danielle, and Caitlin (Alex); grandchildren “by heart” Garreth and Emily; her “children by heart” Debbie, Stella and Gerard; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly and always kept close in her heart. Besides her parents, she is predeceased her husband, Donald Francis (2007); brothers, Finlay, Allister, sister, Betty, and her two angels in childbirth. In her early life Mom worked for the Post Offices in Mabou and Port Hood, the Registry of Deeds, and at the end of her career, with Royal Bank, in Port Hood, at which time she developed Rheumatoid Arthritis at age of 46. Although RA did its best to define Mom’s life from that time forward – she never let it happen. Her motto was always “where there’s a will, there’s a way” and she lived by it every day of her life. Mom’s greatest love (second perhaps only to tea and a good plate of sweets) was her family, who were always in her thoughts and prayers. A truly social being, having friends and family, music and dance in her home was her joy and pleasure. Visitors were always greeted with a warm welcome and a smile on her face. Mom was a woman of great faith and devotion to the blessed Mother and the rosary. She was a woman of peace and always saw the good in people. Her bible and rosary beads were never out of her reach. Her faith sustained her to the end and carried her to be forever again with Dad and family members who have gone before her. Visitation will take place in Port Hood and Area Resting Place on Tuesday, January 14th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be in St Peter’s Parish Church at 11a.m., Wednesday, January 15, with Fr Eugene Morris officiating. Burial to take place at a later time. Funeral services under the direction of Inverness Funeral Home. Those wishing to donate in Mom’s memory can do so to the Arthritis Society of NS, The Alzheimer’s Society NS or Inverary Manor. Special thanks to the wonderful team at Harbour Lites Villa, Inverary Manor who brought love, compassion and friendship to Mom’s life each day including on her last beautiful day with them.
My lifelong mentor, my inspiration, my rock, my best friend – my Mom. Forever loved.
