Cecilia Ann Marie "Tootsie" Smith

Smith, Cecilia Ann Marie “Tootsie” – Port Hood Aged 78, died peacefully in her sleep at home on September 3, 2015. Cecilia was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia in 1937. She was a daughter of the late Dan Archie and Mary Margaret MacDonald (of Harbourview).

She was predeceased by her husband, Jimmie Smith in 2003. They were married in Ontario in 1964 and resided there until 1980 when they moved back home to Port Hood with their family. She was a graduate of St. Martha’s Hospital School of Nursing, Antigonish, Class of 1958.

True to her caring and helpful nature, she had a rewarding career as a registered nurse. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and put her quiet faith into practice daily. Tootsie was devoted to her family, friends, home, and church. Her family will fondly remember her love of laughter, great sense of humour and especially her ability to have song or rhyme for any occasion.

She is survived by her four children Mary (Rick) MacDonald, Parksville, B.C.; Ann (John) Macquarrie, Doctors Brook; Rachel Smith, Halifax; Perley “P.J.” (Kim) Smith, Port Hood and her eight grandchildren Rory, Jimmie, Duncan, William, Hannah, Allison, Rachel and Josie.

She will be greatly missed by her siblings, Rachel Scarano, Little Judique; Paul (Helen), Detroit; Jerome (Christine), Harbourview; and James “Butch” (Phyllis), Harbourview and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mary, Roddy, John Leo and Joe.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, in Port Hood and Area Resting Place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, Port Hood with Fr. Andrew Gillies officiating, burial at a later date in Union Protestant Cemetery, Port Hood.
