It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we regret to announce the passing of our Mom and Nanny, Donelda “Nelda” Mac Dougall on March 29, 2014 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Nelda was born March 10, 1942, to the late Margaret and Archie Mac Donnell and raised in Mabou Coal Mines by a very special and loving aunt and uncle, the late Katie Jane “Mama” and Dannie Neil Mac Phee. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John Francis Mac Dougall. Survived by sons Hughie (Cathy), and Kyle (Gloria); daughters, Kimmy (Roy) and Tammy, all of Inverness. Also the 8 sparkles in her eye and the joys of her life: her grandchildren, Aileen, Graham, Cody, Mia, Luke, Ronnie, Baby Kyle, and Abby. Brothers, Angus, Archie, Ronald “Buppy”, Lauchie, Alex “Hubba”, Alfred, and Billy. Sisters, Catherine “Kay”, Mary Florence “Sissy”, Margaret “Babes”, Shirley, Josie, Kathleen, and Susie. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. Nelda was also predeceased by brothers, John Lauchie, Alex, Neil, Ranald “Pushie”, Donnie, and R.D. Sisters, Norma and Ann Marie. Nelda was small but mighty. Becoming a widow at the young age of 37, and being left with four small children to raise on her own, was a true testament of how strong she was. It was after this major loss that she left New Brunswick and returned home to Inverness with her cherished children where she lived and worked in various restaurants until the age of retirement. She fulfilled her life by spending time with her grandchildren and playing the odd game of bingo here and there. For those that have spent any time in her home or dropped in for a cup of tea know that Nelda always made sure no one left with an empty stomach. She will always be remembered for her strong will and quick wit. RIP NANNY NELDA! Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, from 2 -2:45 p.m., followed by funeral mass at 3 p.m. in Stella Maris Church, Inverness. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. No Flowers please. Memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or to Stella Maris Parish Cemetery Fund, Inverness.
