

Dyney Catherine Gillis, March 16th, 1958 – September 21st, 2013, passed away peacefully in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Dyney was born in Sydney, and was adopted into the loving family of Lawrence and Sarah (Sadie) LeLievre. She was a member of Stella Maris Church, Inverness. Dyney attended Saint Mary’s University, where she received her Bachelor of Science. She worked at the Pathology Lab at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax before returning home to Inverness to raise a family. She worked many years in the seafood processing industry as a Quality Control Officer at plants in Inverness and Cheticamp. She loved the outdoors, road trips, and most of all, being in her garden. Dyney is survived by her brother, Robert (Charlene) LeLievre; her three boys, Daniel, Robert (Leighton), and Alex Gillis (Tiffany Randell); their father, Joey Gillis (Joudi Westman); her special friend Kevin Kennedy; and many nieces and nephews. In recent years, she was able to contact and meet her birth family. She is also survived by her mother, Jennie McNeil; her siblings, Linda Clark, Laura Levesque, Tom McNeil, and Tony McNeil, and their families. Dyney was predeceased by her parents; and her partner, Norman MacEachern. Visitation will be in Inverness Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 25, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral mass on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Stella Maris Church, Inverness with Fr. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society.
