

MacKinnon, Frederick “Freddie” Duncan – Age 76, passed away in the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on January 24, 2014. Born in Inverness on October 16, 1937, he was a son of The late Duncan J. and Ida E (MacKinnon) MacKinnon. Freddie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jeanette (McDonald) MacKinnon; daughters, Margaret (Steven) LeBlanc and Deidre; sons, Martin (Norma) and Bryce; grandchildren, Emily, Brandon and Joel LeBlanc as well as Avery, Neil and Kathryn MacKinnon. Freddie is also survived by sister, Betty (John) MacKinnon; brother–in-law, Garry Myers; sister-in-law, Danena; many nieces, nephews and extended family. A graduate of Provincial Normal College and a 1968 graduate of St. Francis Xavier University, Freddie taught primarily at the Inverness Consolidated School. He also served as a Justice of the Peace for the province of Nova Scotia. Freddie was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a devoted community man who was a charter member with the Kinsmen. Freddie spent time with both minor and high school hockey teams (in between cheering for his Montreal Canadiens), minor baseball and could always be seen enjoying an afternoon or evening card of harness racing at the local oval. Freddie loved to play cards and will forever be remembered as a family man. Freddie is predeceased by sisters, Florence and Anna; brothers, Malcolm, David and Edwin. Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home on Sunday, January 26th from 7-9 pm and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 28th at 3 p.m. in East Lake Church, East Lake Ainslie with Rev. Louis Ihasz celebrating. Burial will be at a later date.
