It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear father and grandfather, Hal Habicht on Saturday, February 4,2023. Born on December 19 1947, Harold Stanley Habicht. He was the youngest son of Carl Habicht and Josephine (MacInnis) Habicht and was a proud member of the Stella Maris Parish, Inverness. Known as Hal to his family and friends, he lived his entire life in Inverness.
Dad worked at Evan's Coal Mine until an accident at the mine left him with a traumatic brain injury in February 1993. Living his life beside the arena and the race track it was no surprise that Dad enjoyed going to the horse races and hockey games. He also loved playing bingo, stock cars/racing and socializing around town on his scooter. Dad had a huge heart and love of animals. He enjoyed a good laugh, several cups of tea a day and would never say no to sweets or a Vachon cake. By far the best part of his life were his son, Derek (Robin); and his daughter, Kayla (Walter) who blessed him with the lights of his life, his grandsons, Logan and Liam. Logan and Liam will miss their Poppy. Dad was so thrilled when Derek and Robin moved to Inverness in 2021. He was so blessed to have the last two years with both his children being so close by.
Dad was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Josie; his older sisters, Carlene (Cameron), Theresa (Harper), Christina (MacIsaac); and his older brother, Carl (Junior). He was also predeceased by his oldest son, Harold Stanley Jr. who died in infancy.
Left to mourn his passing are his son, Derek; daughter-in-law, Robin; daughter, Kayla; son-in-law, Walter (Walker); and his grandsons, Logan and Liam. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews including Brian and Carol who were raised like younger siblings to Dad. Dad is also survived by his former wife, Mary Florence who continued to be his best friend throughout his life. Hal will also be missed by his buddies, Bernie Hinkley, Allen MacKinnon and Archie Hinkley, who were the best buds he could ever ask for.
We are requesting family flowers only with memorial donations going to the Dr. Bernie MacLean Cultural and Recreation Centre in Inverness.
Visitation will take place in Inverness Funeral Home on Thursday February 9th from 3-7 pm. Funeral Mass to be held in Stella Maris Church, Inverness on Friday February 10th at 11:00 am with Father Daniel Tshimbalanga officiating.
Burial to be announced at a later date.
