

Born in South West Margaree, he was a son of the late Patrick J. and Catherine (MacFarlane) Gillis. He was predeceased by his brothers Patrick Francis and John Charles.
Jimmie was a kind-hearted man who would do much for many. He worked in construction for many years and was a member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local 615. He loved spending time with his family and friends whom he loved dearly and in the place he loved most, Margaree. Jimmie leaves all that knew him with many memories of great times and plenty of laughs. He had a great love for the outdoors, fishing and hunting and was an avid Blackhawks fan.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years Mary (MacIsaac); daughters, Meagan (Craig King), Erin (Michael Hanson); Proud Poppy to Fiona, Norah and Oscar; sisters, Tena (Jean Yves Blondin), Theresa (Dave) Blaney, Anne Myles, Darlene (Sean) Murphy, Kimberley (Brian Mosher), Paula (Tony Van Bommel), Ethna (Brooks Hart); brothers, Danny (Elaine), Sandy (Brenda), Alan (Maureen), Fabian (Carol) and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 26 from 6-9pm in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St, Dartmouth. Visitation will also be held on Friday, November 28 from 2-4 and 7-9pm in the Inverness Funeral Home, 45 MacIsaac St., Inverness. The funeral mass will take place in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, South West Margaree, on Saturday, November 29 at 11am. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
