Jessie MacLennan, wife of the late Angus J. MacLennan (d.1975), from Chimney Corner, died peacefully on December 3, 2017 in Inverary Manor, Inverness, at the age of 87 surrounded by her beloved children.
Jessie was born in St. Rose on February 24, 1930. She was a daughter of Ronald Joseph MacLellan and Annie Florence (MacNeil).
She was a devout Roman Catholic, belonging to St. Margaret of Scotland parish, Broad Cove. She served on Parish Council, was a Eucharistic Minister, a lector and a committed volunteer at the Broad Cove Concert canteen where she served tea, hot dogs, and sold tickets for over 50 years.
She was a valued member of her community where she volunteered her time and talents in many initiatives although there was no one charity that was her favorite. She canvassed for them all.
She was actively involved in the South West Margaree Senior's Club taking on each of the executive positions. She loved managing finances and her children teased her about applying for the federal finance minister's position. She served on the Board of the Inverness Cottage Workshop. She was actively involved in politics and loved discussing the issues of the day.
At one time she was owner and operator of the Margaree Harbour Craft and Gift Shop. She loved meeting people and often convinced them of the importance of having a woolen blanket.
Her family and friends were very important to her, always making sure there were biscuits and sweets in for tea. No one could make, bake and serve a pan of biscuits faster.
She loved horses and enjoyed going to the harness races with her sister Janet.
Widowed at the age of 45, Jessie is survived by her nine loving children, Mary, Chimney Corner; Ann (Lenora, Lennan, and Andrew), Chimney Corner; Rona (Gerry) Melanson (Shane, Tarah, Lyndsay and Mark), Cochrane, Alta.; Gussie (Gertrude) (Mary, Michael and Karla), Chimney Corner; Donald (Laura) (Donald, Jr., Matthew, Justin and Jessica), Chimney Corner; Roddie (Deborah) (Michelle, Kyle, Brandon, Tenesha and Lakeshia), Chimney Corner; Marilyn (Emmitt) Daley (Jessie), Margaree Harbour; Hugh (Elliott and Paige), Fort McMurray, Alta.; and Heather (Luca Petti) (Gianluca, Micah, and Cristina), Ottawa, Ont. She was also blessed with 25 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. She is survived by brothers, Sandy MacLellan, Kenloch; Gussie (Adelaide), Inverness; sisters-in-law, Zena Saule, New Waterford; and Pat MacLellan, Sudbury, Ont.
