

It is with heavy hearts, the family of John Archie Kennedy announce his passing in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on March 25th, 2015, surrounded by family. John Archie was born in South West Margaree on May 8th, 1934, to the late Katie Florence (MacIsaac) and Archie Kennedy (of Dunvegan).
John Archie is survived by his brother, Rannie Kennedy (Penny), Broad Cove; sisters,Hughena Macneil (David) Fredericton, N.B.; and Christine Kendzoria (Lloyd, predeceased) Azilda, ONT. He is also survived by five nieces, eleven nephews and 17 grandnieces and grandnephews.
A member of St. Margaret’s of Scotland Parish, John Archie was a fluent Gaelic speaker and enjoyed sharing stories, genealogy and wisdom with younger members of the family. He was also a member of the Inverness Pipe Band and among the 100 Pipers at the Causeway opening.
John Archie had an affinity for South West Margaree and the river, it having been his birthplace and the birthplace of his mother. He also enjoyed being in the barn trying to “reinvent the wheel” or at least a better Gaspereaux trap.
A welder by trade, John Archie was a member of Local 682 Pipefitters Union, and worked extensively throughout North America, but was happiest when working in Cape Breton. After retirement, he shared his time between his residence in Sydney and his home in Dunvegan.
John Archie could be found visiting family and friends or conversing at the local coffee shop. One of a kind and a friend to many, John Archie, will be remembered for his kindness, honesty, understanding, intellect and wit. With the Celtic Cross as his compass, John Archie knew his “true north”.

Friends and family are invited to share their condolences with John Archie’s family at St. Margaret’s of Scotland Church, Broad Cove, on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 10:00 – 10:45 am with funeral mass to follow at 11 am. Fr. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Inverness Hospital Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society of Nova Scotia.
