Born in Deepdale, Inverness County, March 1st, 1959, Joe was the youngest son of the late John Angus Smith, Inverness and Catherine Ann (MacEachern) Smith, Judique.
Joe was a very kind and caring person. He was always there for his mother, and she could always count on him. In his earlier years Joe liked to get in his car and drive. He also enjoyed popping in for a visit with his family and friends. Joe had a dry sense of humor and was loved by all. He had a great memory for special events and dates. If you couldn't remember a birthday, all you had to do was ask Joe – he would know.
Joe was a strong Maple Leaf fan, and the staff at the Inverary Manor made sure he got to watch all the games and they always made it exiting for him. He was also an avid Bingo player at the Manor. He loved to win a loonie and had a special compartment for his winnings.
Joe is survived by his siblings, Donnie, Kingston, ON; Colonel (Gloria), Inverness; Rachael (Bob), Liverpool; Bernie (Inverness). Joe always had a special place in his heart for his nephews, nieces and his great nephews and great nieces.
Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his sister Pauline (Krahl); and his brother Gordon Smith.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Lok and to the staff of the Inverary Manor for all the special care and compassion they gave to Joe during his stay at the Manor.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, January 21st, at 11:00 am in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Broad Cove with Father Daniel officiating.
