Born in South West Margaree, she was the eldest daughter of Archy B. and Mary Margaret (MacLellan) MacLellan.
In 1952 she married Angus Jim Gillis of Gillisdale, where they spent their married life.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlene (David) Clarke, Inverness; sons, Jim (Patricia), Pine Tree; Alex (Jeanita) Lyons Brook; Ron (Sukhee) Kentville; daughter-in-law, Jeannette Gillis, Cambridge; sister, Jessie Green, Toronto; cousin, Vincent (Mary) Gillis, Truro, who she regarded as a brother. Also, survived by her grandchildren, Christy (Jeremy), Eric, Wilfred (Alicia) Craig (Crystal), Amie, Maggie (Adam); and great-grandchildren, Alex, Chris and Evie.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Angus Jim; daughter-in-law, Jo Anne Gillis and sister, Catherine Isabel.
Special thanks to Dr. Susie Egar, Mary Anderson N.P, Dr. Ritter and the Palliative Care Team, the nursing staff of Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for their care over the years and particularly the last months. We wish to also provide a heartfelt thanks to all the staff of the Inverary Manor where she made her home for the last 18 months. You made it her home and she enjoyed every minute she spent there.
Mary Anne will rest in Inverness Funeral Home on Friday, October 4th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 5th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, SW Margaree with Father MacDonald Ibeh officiating. Burial to follow in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery, SW Margaree.
