It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Mary Irene Campbell, on September 26, 2023, in Inverary Manor, Inverness. Irene is finally at rest after suffering declined health in recent years. Irene was born in New Waterford, on October 17 1943, to the late Annie Mae MacIsaac of Blackstone and Alex Gillis of Margaree. She leaves behind one sister, Pearline (Roger) of Orange, MA, along with their children, Pamela, Roger, Brian and Angela and their grandchildren; daughter, Jo-Ann Campbell-Cameron and husband, Rick of Avon, MA; son, Alexander J. “Sandy” along with former wife, Keri Romano of Medfield, MA; son, Alexander A. “Al” and his wife, Krista of Blackstone and Alberta; grandchildren, Anthony, Russell and Grenne.
Irene was predeceased by her former husband, Alex J. Campbell of Glenora Falls and by her son, Donald “Dan” J. of Watertown, MA. Irene married Alex in Boston, MA and raised their children in Watertown. Irene worked for many years in the healthcare industry taking care of the elderly and was loved dearly by her charges. She was a member of the Canadian-American Club and enjoyed attending their dances. Irene could not do enough for you if you landed on her doorstep. She was selfless, with a heart of gold and was kind to everyone she knew. Besides her grieving children, Irene leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and the dearest friends and neighbors for whom one could wish.
To Mary Beaton, Joyce Gillis, Linda Maloney, Flossie Vanden Hoogen, Janet Hendsbee, Annabelle Gillis and Willena Campbell, who were there with Irene in her final days and moments,we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to you. Words cannot express what a tremendous blessing you were when we were so far away. Not only did you bring great comfort to our Mom but you also brought her children great comfort to know she was not alone. “Friendship is a sheltering tree." Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
