Melva Dawn (Justason) MacLean, 85, of Central Avenue, Inverness passed away peacefully on March 4, 2023 with her family by her side in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
Melva was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, friend and mother-in-law, who leaves behind her two sons, Roy (Tobi), Inverness and Edwin (Lynn) Paradise, NL; two granddaughters, Lindsey, Inverness and Kaitlyn, Halifax; brother, Neil Justason, Pennfield, NB; sister, Marilyn (Dean) Rovithis, London, ON and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Born in Blacks Harbour, NB, Melva studied nursing before she got on the last passenger train to Inverness, where she met the love of her life, the late Myron MacLean. Melva and Myron married shortly after and started both a family and a family business, MacLean Agencies.
Melva enjoyed the outdoors. She spent many summers enjoying Lake Ainslie with family and friends from near and far at the family cabin. Melva shared a love for hunting, fishing and snowmobiling with her boys, and enjoyed road trips with her family as well as her best friends, the Cameron's.
Anyone who knew her, knew of her love for baking and baked goodies, gardening, reading, dogs, phone calls with family, visits with friends, her view of MacIsaac's Pond, and her beloved cherry centers.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Myron; parents, Prescott and Leona; and siblings, Greta Ukrainetz and Howard Justason.
Melva's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the medical, dietary and housekeeping staff at both Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their dedication to Mom's care and for making our family feel cared for and comfortable during this time.
Visitation will take place in St. Matthew's United Church, Inverness on March 14th from 10-10:45 am with Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Maggie Plant celebrating. Memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or to a charity of choice.
