Michelle Lee MacArthur, 49, was born in Inverness March 10th, 1971. With her devoted mother by her side, she passed away peacefully at the Inverary Manor on Saturday November 14th, 2020. Michelle, born with down syndrome, was loved and cared for daily by her mother Estelle and together, with her father Herbie (deceased), they always had her best interest at heart. Michelle will be missed dearly by her siblings Jimmy (Angela), Bernice (Wayne), Gregory (Diane), Lloyd, and Estelle (Brent); her loving nieces Ashley, Laura, Jackie and Chloe; and nephews Dwayne, Kyle, Derek, Brad and Riley. She was predeceased by her sister Angela. Michelle’s larger than life personality could fill a room with her laugh and smile, choice words and her strong will to live her best life. In her younger years, Michelle attended Inverness Consolidated and, at 18, she went to work at MacDonald’s Hall with some of her life long friends. Michelle enjoyed the simple comforts of a house full of family and friends, listening to music, long drives with a pop and a bag of chips, shopping, movies, and a hot meal. She was blessed to grow up in a neighborhood of friends and family who always welcomed her big hugs and unannounced visits. Throughout her life, Michelle’s care extended into the warm hearts and helpful hands at the Inverness Hospital and recently, the Manor. Michelle’s wake will be held in Inverness on Wednesday, November 18th from 6 to 8 pm. Her life will be celebrated at Stella Maris Parish Thursday November 19th at 11am, followed by burial at the parish cemetery. In memory of Michelle, donations can be made to the Inverary Manor or the ICMH Palliative Care fund. Michelle will always be a reminder that life is a beautiful gift and with love, compassion, and acceptance that “sometimes the things that we can’t change end up changing us (for the better) instead!” -unknown.
