It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Richard Wayne MacKinnon on December 23rd, 2024 at the age of 70. Wayne was born January 20th, 1954, the oldest son of late Mary Jesse and Murdoch Neil MacKinnon of Kenloch, Inverness, NS.
Wayne was best known as a man of simplicity, who appreciated the small things in life. Wayne spent his early years living out west and Ontario before moving back home to Kenloch. Once moving back, he didn’t travel far from home. He was happiest when outdoors exploring nature, and could always be found working around his property, planting gardens, cutting and splitting wood, and blueberry picking. On his down time, he enjoyed reading, drawing, painting, and spending time with his cat Mushie Mush. If he wasn’t seen doing these things, you’d likely see him riding his four-wheeler or hitching a ride into town where he would run errands and would often spend time with friends at the local coffee shop. Wayne was an interesting man who was hardworking and honest. He had a quick wit and a gift for storytelling. A man with a large stature and loud voice that filled every room he entered. Wayne loved to talk and laugh with everyone and appreciated all the kind gestures shown towards him. Wayne took pride in volunteering on the Shean Trail and helping others around him when in need. From for filling food orders and delivering it to families struggling, to donating to Mill Road Social Enterprises, the local food bank, various mental health organizations, the IWK, and the World Wildlife Foundation. He did all these great things many didn’t know and didn’t expect anything in return. In the midst of all of his activities, he found time to be a loving and proud father to his two daughters, Brittany and Vanessa, whom he thought the world of and loved dearly.
Wayne is predeceased by his parents, Mary Jesse and Murdoch Neil MacKinnon; along with brother, Elgin MacKinnon and twin brother, John Wendell in infancy. He is survived by his daughters, Brittany Ring (Matthew), Halifax; Vanessa MacKinnon, Inverness; his sister, Wanda MacKinnon, Kenloch; and brother, Wendell MacKinnon (Danita), Halifax.
Cremation has taken place. A grave side service will be held Saturday, January 11th, 2025 in St. John’s United Cemetery, Strathlorne, NS at 3:00pm.
Memorial donations may be made to Mill Road Social Enterprises, Inverness or to the Inverness Food Bank.
