Robert Peter Hannigan

Robert was born on December 17, 1943. He had a long career in the Nova Scotia education system as a Teacher, Curriculum Supervisor, and Principal, and was strongly active in the NS Teachers Union. His passions were education, politics, and good Irish music. He was president of the Inverness Conservative Party for many years. He served on the Board of Directors of both the Shean Co-op and UCCB. He also sat on the NS Human Rights Commission. He was a devoted member of the Church, attending Mass faithfully at St. Margaret of Scotland in Broad Cove. He was predeceased by his parents James and Clara Hannigan of North East Margaree, and by his sister Lorine Mac Eachern of Cape George, Antigonish. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Anita (LeBlanc)Hannigan, children James (Ellie), Shelley (Mike), LoriAnn (Dave) & Robert Kevin (Danielle), grandchildren Courtney, Emily,Tanner, Lily, Jamie, Charlotte, Liam, Reanne, Michaela, George, Kaitlyn and Keaton, and great grandchildren Max and Collins. He is also survived by his siblings Julia, Bernice, Carlann, Mary,Wayne, Phyllis and Marcella. The family would like to give special thanks to Mary Anderson, his long time Nurse Practitioner. He trusted her completely and had great respect for her expertise. We would also like to thank Lori-Ann MacDonald (RN), Dr. Egar, Dr.Ritter and all the nursing staff at ICMH and the palliative care unit for their excellent care and attention.

Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home on Thursday, August 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held in Stella Maris Church, Inverness on Friday August 19 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Daniel Tshimbalanga officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society.
