Teresa Marie van Zutphen (Morris), age 81, Port Hood, died peacefully at home on May 27, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Born October 17, 1941, in Colindale, she was a daughter of the late Florence (MacDonald) and Patrick Morris.
Teresa loved and cared for her husband, John, of 57 years; her children, Maureen (Mario) Ferrante, Ottawa; Lorraine (David) MacIsaac, Judique; Harvey (Janet) van Zutphen, Port Hood; and Sheila MacIsaac, Port Hood. She cherished and constantly prayed for her nineteen beautiful grandchildren, as well as four great-grandchildren. She was a faithful friend and sister to her brothers, Fr. Eugene Morris, Joseph Morris (Mary MacLellan), and sisters Catherine Morris, CND and Mary Morris, CND.
Teresa was predeceased by her oldest son, Patrick; her precious infant, Mary Teresa; her son-in-law, Duncan MacIsaac; her brothers, Alexander, Hugh and Fr. Angus Morris and sister, Loranna Chisholm.
After her childhood in Colindale, Teresa studied to be a teacher at Nova Scotia Teachers College. Her students from Northeast Mabou, Dunmore and Port Hood continue to remember her as a tender-hearted teacher, always concerned about their needs.
After her marriage to John in 1965, Teresa took her vocation as wife and mother very seriously. She fostered her own faith through daily prayer, Rosary, attendance at Mass and Adoration. Family life was paramount. Leading by example, she inspired those around her to serve. She was hospitable and generous, leaving those she encountered the better for it. She had a special place in her heart for those in need, welcoming all into her heart and home. Music being a big part of her life, she continually encouraged others to develop and share their talents.
She joyfully served her community through many organizations including the Catholic Women’s League and the Hospital Auxiliary and as a palliative care volunteer.
She especially shone in the last two years of her life through her gracious acceptance of her illness. The way she lived each day with gratitude, patience and hospitality inspired many.
Her family are extremely grateful for the compassionate care she received from Inverness County Palliative Care and Home Care services, her doctors, and the community for sharing this journey with them.
