Betty Lou Morgan was born on September 20, 1932 in Kaufman County, Texas to John Olen Ross and Velma Lee Rhodes. After her mother’s death in 1935, Betty and her identical twin sister, Mary Sue, were adopted by W.D. (Bill) and Nettie Morgan.
She graduated from the University of North Texas (Denton, Texas) with a Bachelors in Education, and continued with post-graduate work at Midwestern State University (Wichita Fall, Texas) The University of Oklahoma (Norman, Oklahoma) St. John's University (Oxford, UK) and The University of Texas (Austin, Texas). She had a true love of learning and continued to educate herself throughout her life.
Betty began her career in education teaching the 4th grade at Kidwell Elementary in Iowa Park, Texas. She continued her career as a professor of Business Administration, Economics and Communications at Wayland Baptist University on Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls Texas where she taught for over 25 years. She was also a part of the adjunct faculty at Wayland University and Vernon Regional College. During her career she traveled to teach classes from Lubbock, Texas to Honolulu, Hawaii. Her student’s admiration for her was only surpassed by her dedication to them. Many continued to turn to her as a mentor for their education and careers, both civilian and military.
Betty chartered the Toastmasters International Club in her hometown, Iowa Park, Texas, and continued to be a mentor to that group. She served as the Regional President and received the Distinguished Toastmasters Award in 2008, Toastmasters International's highest award.
Not one to sit idly, Betty continued to volunteer after her retirement. Benefactors of her volunteerism ranged from the Iowa Park Library to the Holiday Craft Store at Presbyterian Manor, Wichita Falls.
Betty was a talented artist, working in mediums from oil and watercolor painting to jewelry making. She was a gifted conversationalist and never met a stranger. She instilled in her family a love of learning, a good plate of Tex Mex, and a cold Dr Pepper. She was a woman of faith and a life-long member of the Southern Baptist church.
She is survived by her children, Audrey Kidd (Tedd), George Bushfield (Lesa), and Lydia Bushfield, grandchildren Alanah Bushfield-Mckinley (Joe), and Courtney Seitz; and great-granddaughter Gwendolyn Rose Mckinley. She is preceded in death by twin sister, Mary Sue Naugher and her husband of 53 years, Louis Sefcik.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.duttonfuneralhome.com for the Sefcik family.
