

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2011 at McAdoo Cemetery in McAdoo, Texas with his son, Rev. Larry McWilliams officiating. Services are under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home of Iowa Park, Texas.
Lawson has lived in Spur, Texas for the past 16 years and had previously lived in Lamesa, Texas. He and his wife were in the process of moving to Iowa Park. He was born in McAdoo, Texas on November 23, 1927 to Lawson Henry and Lucy Potett McWilliams. After serving his country from 1948 until 1950 he returned home to marry Betty Jo Baker of Spur on October 28, 1950 in Roswell, New Mexico. He began working in the oilfield and later started his own business with his son. He became a successful building contractor in Lamesa, Texas until retiring to Spur.
His parents, a son, Joe Lawson McWilliams and siblings, Henry Benjamin, Raymond Royce, William Roscoe, Elmer Wayne, Curtis Dale and Esta Faye Wheeler preceded him in death.
He leaves as survivors his wife of 60 years, Betty of Spur and Iowa Park; son, Larry McWilliams and wife, Janet of Texarkana, Texas; daughter, Terry Thompson and husband, Mark of Iowa Park; grandchildren, Stacy Sanders and husband, Brett of Austin, Texas, Gianna Allensworth and husband, Matt of Texarkana, Texas, Jaci Harville and husband, Chris of Bossier City, Louisiana, Amanda Dyer and husband, Chris of Bryan, Texas and Clint Thompson and wife, Tiffany of Athens, Texas; great grandchildren, Cameron and Conner Sanders of Austin and Lawson Thompson of Athens, Texas.
