

Oliver Newton “Newt” Newman, 86, of Iowa Park, Texas, died at home on June 16, 2010, maintaining the same grace and dignity that characterized his life. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 10 AM at the First Christian Church of Iowa Park with Gary House, Pastor officiating. Graveside Services will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park.
Newt was born in Dundee, Texas, on January 18, 1924, the son of Lorene and Newt Newman. He was the oldest of three siblings. On May 7, 1949, Newt married the love of his life, Estaleen Taylor, whose death in 2002 ended fifty-two years of marriage. Newt served his country in WWII from 1943-46 as an airborne navigator in the U.S. Marine Corps. Returning from the Pacific Theater, Newt lived in south Texas and worked as Supervisor of Transportation for Dow Chemical until earning his law degree from the South Texas College of Law in 1956. Shortly thereafter, Newt and his family moved to Iowa Park, where he practiced law for fifty-three years.
Newt was a member of the State Bar of Texas, Wichita County Bar, Iowa Park Noonday Lions’ Club, Iowa Park Muleskinners, and Iowa Park Chamber of Commerce. He was a Master Mason of the Iowa Park Masonic Lodge for over fifty years and a member of the Maskat Shriner's of Wichita Falls. He served as legal counsel and was on the Board of Directors for State National Bank.
Newt is survived by his brother, Oscar Newman and wife, Margaret, of Austin, Texas; brother-in-law, John Freeman of Gilbert, Arizona; brother-in-law, Loyd Taylor and wife, Birdie, of Clute, Texas; son, O.N. Newman III and wife, Shelly of Argyle, Texas; son, James Randal Newman of Lake Dallas, Texas; and daughter, Staci Giddings and husband, Greg of Wichita Falls, Texas; grandchildren, Oliva Cole and husband, J.R. of Dallas, Texas; Heather Newman of Dallas, Texas; O.N. Newman IV of Houston, Texas; Grant Giddings of Wichita Falls, Texas; and Greyson Giddings, of Wichita Falls, Texas; Brittney Raines of Argyle, Texas; Nakota Raines of Argyle, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jack Cole of Dallas, Texas; and Charlie Cole of Dallas, Texas.
Newt was preceded in death by his wife, Estaleen; and sister, Joan Freeman.
Visitation will be held at the Newman residence from 5 PM to 7 PM on Sunday, June 20, 2010. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice of Wichita Falls.
