Thomas Allan Marshall, known as “Grandad” to his kids and grandkids and “Allan” to his friends & family, passed away on May 15, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on June 7, 1954 to Virgil and Joyce Marshall in Quanah, TX, he lived a life full of laughter, loyalty, and love-for his family, his favorite pastimes, and the simple pleasures that made life sweet.
He graduated from Iowa Park High School in 1974 and Midwestern State University in 1981 where he was a member of the fraternity, Sigma Nu. He worked hard to pay his way through college. Allan worked at Patterson Auto Center as a pin-striper for over 30 years, where he left his artistic mark on countless vehicles and made lasting friendships. He was proud of his craft and the people he worked alongside.
A lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Allan enjoyed quiet evenings watching TV, drinking a cold beer, and keeping the yard, churchyard, and Clara Cemetery in perfect shape-mowing the grass was practically a sacred ritual. He found joy in the open road, often driving the backroads with the Bee Gees, the Carpenters, Bread, or Fleetwood Mac playing on the stereo. He was ornery in the best way-quick with a joke, teasing grin, and a heart far bigger than he’d ever admit. Allan had a special place in his heart for animals, kids, and especially his grandkids, who brought him endless joy and pride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Larry Marshall, brother-in-law, Buddy Lindley, son, James Marshall, and grandson, Dominic Watson. He is survived by his sisters, Sue and Steve Lego, and Penny Lindley, daughters, Mindy and Kory Stewart, Renee and Justin Kenney, and Sarah and Chris Lareau, and his son, John Marshall, daughter-in-law, Sarah Williams, and family friends, Tallea, Weslynn, and Azlynn Haning, grandchildren-Taylor Butler, Marqus Kenney, Audrey Nicholson, Riley Green, Ian Green, Kelcie Watson, James Marshall, Jr., Kaylee Marshall, and Ruby Marshall, and 4 great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on in them-in their laughter, their stubborn streaks, and the love they show their own families.
Allan will be remembered by his sharp wit, warm heart, and unwavering love for those lucky enough to call him family or friend.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered-always.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park, TX from 4-6pm. Services will be at the Dutton Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, May 19, 2025 at 2:00pm.
