

COLUMBIA - Major Christine H. Jones, an Officer in The Salvation Army for 58 years was promoted to Glory on January 29th, 2016 at the age of 78. Born on November 14, 1937 in Cumberland, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Martha Hamilton. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Major Richard L. Jones; sister, Patricia Welsh of Cumberland, MD; sons, Gary Creswell (Debra) and George Willis (Linda); grandsons, Richard Creswell (Chrystal), Billy Willis (Erica); granddaughter, Sarah; seven great-grandchildren; and loving puppy, Skeeter. Christine was commissioned with the Courageous Session, as an Officer at The Salvation Army, School For Officer's Training in Atlanta, GA in 1958. Saved to Serve, her 58 years as an Officer and 78 years of life were filled with sharing the love of Jesus Christ to all and following the mission, not only of The Salvation Army, but that of the great commission of her Savior. She loved and cared for her family and spoiled her grandchildren and great- grandchildren with pride. She will be missed greatly, but her life will always be celebrated. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at The Salvation Army, 3024 Farrow Road, Columbia, SC, with entombment in Elmwood Cemetery Mausoleum. Major Roger Coulson, Area Coordinator and Pastor of the Midlands, Columbia, SC presiding, assisted by Major Richard Watts of Wilmington, NC. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2016 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
