

Columbia, SC – Born as David Morgan Ingbretsen, he changed his name to David Ingbretsen Morgan to assimilate into American culture. He was born on June 11, 1930, in Staten Island, New York, to Norwegian immigrants Morgan and Ragna Ingbretsen. He pursued his education at several institutions, including Bob Jones University, Barrington Bible College, Syracuse University, and New York University. He received his PhD in Psychology and Special Education Administration from the University of South Carolina. His first job was as a commercial artist at the Chrysler Building in New York City.
Throughout his life, Dr. Morgan held a variety of impactful roles, including Social Worker for San Diego County, California; FM Station Engineer in Providence, Rhode Island; Chaplain at Rhode Island State Hospital; Psychologist at South Carolina State Hospital; and Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of South Carolina. He also served as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at nursing schools in Columbia, Spartanburg, and Orangeburg, and worked at the South Carolina Department of Corrections as Division Director for youthful offenders, women, men, and those on death row. He was also an ordain minister.
Following his retirement in 1990, Dr. Morgan remained dedicated to serving others. He worked as a Guardian Ad Litem and Counselor for the Columbia Suicide Hotline, volunteered with the SC Oncology Associates helping to transport patients to and from cancer treatment centers, assisted South Carolina Social Services in placing foster children, and often served as a paralegal for local attorneys in Columbia.
Surviving are his brother, Roger Ingbretsen (Kathleen) of Mesquite, Nevada; his son, Tal Morgan (Brenda) of Irmo, SC; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a loving brother, William Ingbretsen.
No memorial service will be held. He died as a believer in Jesus Christ and attended The First Church of the Nazarene in Columbia, SC.
