

Mr. Patterson passed away peacefully Saturday, February 1, 2025 on the birthday of his wife, Mildred, and the first anniversary of her funeral. Born in Elberton, Georgia, on October 22, 1930, he was the son of J. W. and Natalie Hammond Patterson.
Surviving are his son Russell Patterson (Wanda) of Lexington, SC; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Rene) Onate and Cameron Patterson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Mildred S. Patterson, daughter, Edwina “Wendy” Patterson, and most all relatives.
CSM Patterson served in the Air Force 1953-1958. He served in the Army and Army Reserves 1965-1990 when he retired. During his career he traveled to numerous Army bases throughout the United States and Europe instructing soldiers in Chemical Warfare. He thoroughly enjoyed his career and was able to assist many soldiers in their professional and personal family lives.
Mr. Patterson loved and enjoyed his family. There were numerous family camping trips. The very first family camping trip was in an old Army mess tent which unbeknown at the time leaked. Over the years the family moved up to a Fifth wheel travel trailer. Ed and Mildred traveled to many different states, enjoying themselves all along the way. They would spend the winter months in FL and in the summer at their favorite place, Jaymar Travel Park in Hendersonville, NC. Some of the most enjoyable times were going on numerous cruises with their daughter Wendy.
The Pattersons have been very regular attendees of the First Baptist Columbia television ministry congregation for 24 years.
The family wishes to thank Lexington Internists Irmo, David Bean of the First Baptist Church Columbia Homebound Ministry, Right at Home, and everyone at Lexington Medical Center 6th floor South Tower who took excellent care of him and provided a clean environment in his final weeks.
A funeral service for Edwin Patterson will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, with burial in the mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the Mausoleum Chapel.
