Ernestine Sweat

CHAPIN - Viola Ernestine Carter Sweat, born in Hemingway SC, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday September 29, 2021 at the age of 88. She was surrounded by her husband Eugene and their four children. During her early years she worked at Southern Bell and retired after 34 years when it became ATT. She was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of American and the Telephone Pioneers Camping Club.

Ernestine lived a faithful life as a member of Dutch Fork Baptist Church, active with her Sunday School class. She lived on Lake Murray where she raised her family watching her kids and grandkids grow up. Her favorite pastime was spending time with friends either enjoying the boat, playing cards, domino’s or doing crafts. She and her husband of 70 years enjoyed traveling the country in their RV. They saw all 50 states, Canada and Mexico while traveling with many dear friends and making lifetime memories.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Eugene Sweat; her sister, Nina Tyler; four children, Regena Sweat Heilmann (Harry), Steven Sweat (Terri), Gwen Sweat Gloeckner and Cheryl Sweat Brinchi (Steve); grandchildren, Ken Britton (Serena), Stefanie King (Andy), Shelby Sweat, Malory Mundy (Jason), Lindsey Gloeckner, Jacob Brinchi, Stephanie Brinchi and Zachary Brinchi and eight wonderful great-grandchildren.

She is preceded by her mother, Mary Getha Session; father, Evans Wilburn Carter; brother William Carter; and sisters, Leila Mae Bullard, Annie Ruth Sparrow, Virginia Martin.

Ernestine’s faith in God was reflected in all that she did. She will be greatly missed by her family and all that knew her. She was a caring friend to anyone that knew her and will be remembered for her loving kindness and sweet spirit. In her honor memorial gifts can be made to Dutch Fork Baptist Church, 3517 Dreher Shoals Road, Irmo, SC 29063.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2021 at Dutch Fork Baptist Church followed by a graveside service. Family will welcome friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 Woodrow St, Irmo, SC.
