George E. Richards

Funeral Service for Master Sergeant George E. Richards, U.S. Army (Ret.), 84, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, with burial to follow in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery.

George passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017. Born in Sunfield, Michigan, he was a son of the late George L. Richards and Violet George Richards. Master Sergeant Richards, a well decorated United States Army Veteran, retired following 30 years of service to his country. During his Army tenure, he was a Green Beret, as well as an Army Ranger, and served two tours during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Evelyne Ersula Ruth Schmidt Richards; sons, Leslie Richards (Denise), George Richards (Cindy); grandchildren, Sara Richards, Elizabeth Richards, Allyson Long, Emily Richards; and great-grandchildren, Caroline Stoy, Darby Long and Brody Long. He is also survived by one brother, Harry; and sisters, Mary and Helen.
