

James, known to most as Jim, was born in Danville, Illinois, to the late Robert and Mary Dabels. He passed away on February 18, 2015. He graduated from Danville High School in 1957, attended Colorado College and graduated from the University of Illinois after joining the United States Navy in 1961, serving 4 years in Norfolk, VA as Yeoman 2nd class. He began his career at Teepak in Danville, IL retiring from the Sandy Run, SC plant in 1996. He continued his career in management with Hancor and Honeywell with his final retirement from Shaw Industries occurring in 2010.
Jim had many passions in life including his love of reading, singing, mountain climbing, tennis, the outdoors and pranking his fellow employees. His singing encompassed touring with the Colorado College choir in college days and then singing in church choirs at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danville, IL and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC. His most memorable moment and highlight was singing at his daughter’s wedding. He was very active in his children’s lives teaching them his love of fishing, camping and canoeing.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Campbell Dabels; his children: Bryan James Dabels (Anne) of Madison, GA, Scott Robert Dabels (Kimberly) of Summerville, SC and Lynn Dabels Busch (Kelly) of Irmo, SC. His two grandchildren he raised, Ryan James Dabels and Nicole Jean Faust (Christopher). Also, other grandchildren Cayenne Dabels, Trent Dabels, Sydney Wessinger, Jessie Wessinger and great-grandchildren Chloe Faust, Gabriele Faust and Kylie Faust. He is also survived by his brother, John Dabels (Pam) of Charlotte, NC.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, on Friday, February 27, 2015. Family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home. A burial service will be held at a later date in Danville, Illinois.
