

Memorial Service for Rev. James D. Taylor, 90, will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Columbia First Church of the Nazarene. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. in the foyer of the church.
Rev. Taylor passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018. Born in Cincinnati, OH, he was a son of the late C.D. Taylor and Arlie Belle Pendleton Taylor. He was the husband of 69 years, Virginia Griggs Taylor. Rev. Taylor proudly served in the U.S. Army. A graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University, he received his BA of Religion. He completed his Masters of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary. Rev. Taylor earned his Masters in Education with S.C. State and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Trevecca Nazarene University. Rev. Taylor served numerous Nazarene churches throughout his career to include Copley, OH, Charleston, SC, Harrisonburg, VA, Marietta, OH, Langley, SC, Tifton, GA, Cayce, SC and Lake Murray, SC. He also served as a missionary in Papua New Guinea, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize, and Dominica.
Surviving in addition to his wife Virginia, are his daughters, Judy Nixon (Dr. Wendel Nixon), Janet Taylor (Melinda Borthick); son, Dr. James D. Taylor, II (Karla Taylor); grandchildren, Michael Nixon, Taylor Nixon, Ella Firtko (Matt), James D. “Jad” Taylor III, Jenna Morvay (Connor); great-grandsons, Chaim and Ivy Diluvian, and Griffin Firtko. He is also survived by siblings, Martha Jean Norris, Raymond Taylor, and Pauline McCaskill.
