He was shipped to Fort Jackson for basic training and then immediately to France as a medic. From there, he served in Germany and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and D-Day. After the war, he returned to Columbia where he met his wife, the late Ann Flynn Younts.

Also during that time, he served in the US Army Reserve at Fort Jackson for 32 years retiring as a Sargent Major in the Intelligence Division.
He was a charter member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church, coached little league baseball at the old Forest Baseball League, and was a devoted member of the Palmetto Master Singers for over 30 years.
He is survived by his two sons, Chris Younts (Pam) of Columbia and Kenny Younts (Michelle) of Lexington, SC; two grandchildren, Marnie Hudson (Blake) and Chris Younts, Jr. (Jasmine) both of Columbia; four great-grandchildren, Caroline, Julia, Olivia, and Josie Hudson; and his beloved Elizabeth Ostrom of Irmo.
