John (Jack) Hemphill Sherer

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for John (Jack) Hemphill Sherer, 92, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2025 at Northeast Presbyterian Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Sherer died Thursday, February 6, 2025. Born in Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late Dr. Palmer Grier Sherer and Iva LaRou Sherer. He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957. A graduate of Clemson University, he retired from State Farm Insurance after 34 years of service. John was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder and Deacon. He was a former member of Rotary Club and volunteered at Congaree National Park.

Surviving are his daughter, LaRou Sherer Peters (Robbie); grandchildren, Sara Jean Peters, Marie LaRou Peters, and Robert Glyndon Peters, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Margot LaRou Peters, and Penelope Jean Peters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Beth Middleton Sherer; son, Scott Middleton Sherer; and brothers, David Grier Sherer and Knox Hunter Sherer.
