Josie McLeod

Mrs. Josie Belle Smoak McLeod, age 98, died on July 28, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, August 4, 2025 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, with entombment in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at 11:00 am one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Born in Orangeburg County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Willie Rufus Smoak and Mary Eva Smoak. She was a graduate of Epworth Children’s Home and attended the Army Nursing Corp training at Roper MSU Nursing School in Charleston, SC. She retired from the US Government, Fort Jackson, SC after serving 38 1/2 years with the Adjunct General Officer and Administrative Assistant at Diom. She was a founding member of New Testament Church and a member of The Ladies Berean Bible Class. She was also a member of NARFE.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy F. McLeod, Sr.; stepson, John H. McLeod; siblings, Wimberly Smoak, Eulenia Haden, Blanche Pieper, George Lester Smoak, Rufus Francis Smoak Sr., Hazel Busby, Anne Lou Graham, Hellie Mae Easterling.

She is survived by a son, John Lewis Welch, Jr. and stepson, Billy F. McLeod, Jr.
