

A funeral service for Kenneth Bowers Wicker, 84, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Chapin Christian Community Church, with visitation following the service. Burial will be held at 1:00 pm in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
Mr. Wicker died June 20, 2024. Born in Prosperity, SC on May 26, 1940, he was a son of the late Thomas Melvin and Bonnie Bowers Wicker. He graduated Eau Claire High School in 1958, and attended USC before joining the USAF. Serving his country for over 40 years, he was a veteran and retired from the SC Air National Guard as a Chief Master Sergeant. He received numerous honors and medals to include: National Defense Medal Air Force Commendation, Air Force Longevity 8 times, Air Force Air Reserve Meritorious service 9 times, and deployed in service of Operation Joint Endeavor (Hungary).
A member of First Baptist Church, he sang in the choir for 20 years and taught bells to Special Needs. He was later a member of Chapin Christian Community Church for almost 10 years.
Kenneth was a devoted father, husband, Paw Paw, and friend who was beloved by all who met him. He loved sports and was either coaching or attending all of his kids’ games. Able to fix anything, he mostly loved riding his motorcycle, and working on his 1940 Ford Deluxe convertible he’s had since he was a teenager.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra Wicker; his children with his first wife Jane Wilson (predeceased); K. Wayne (Mary), Kim Carlen (Jamie), Allison Rider, and Kelly Rourk (Corbett); grandchildren, Wilson Wicker (Cameron), Jimmy Carlen (Caitlin), Maggie Charpia (Matt), Knox Carlen, Jack Rider, Abby Puett (Will), Jacob Rourk, and Elizabeth Rourk; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Wicker, Evelyn Wicker, and Rhodes Charpia; sister, Teri W. Gore; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Melvin Wicker and sister, Hettie W. Cross.
