

Irmo, SC – Kermit “Kem” Walter Brown, 92, of Irmo, SC, passed away peacefully at home Monday, June 23, 2025, surrounded by family. Kem was born in Thaxton, Mississippi, the son of the late Calvin H. Brown and Ercell Ward Brown.
Kem served in the U.S. Navy from November 1951 until 1962. He was a Charter Member of the Jamil Temple and Jamil Sportsters.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Billie Sue Brown; daughters, Peggy Love (Clyde) and Cathy Forte, both of Florida; stepdaughter, Rita Smith (Dale) of Lexington, SC; and stepson, Robert Newton (Tara) of West Columbia, SC; granddaughters, Kristina Bouphasavanh (Sithy), Kimberly Price (Robert); grandsons, Jason Love (Lisa), Timothy Love (Janel), Jacob (Tina), and Ryan; 11 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Gene Brown (Donna) of California. Special people in his life include Caitlyn and Alex Lovette and Candace and Jake Cooper.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Robert Brown, and brothers, Jimmy Brown, Calvin Brown, Herbert Brown, Vance Brown, and Roy Brown.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 Woodrow St., Irmo, SC 29063. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens.
