Laura Smith Arledge

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Laura Smith Arledge, 100, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2025 in the chapel of Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior at the mausoleum chapel. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Arledge went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 13, 2025. Born in Spartanburg, SC, she was a daughter of the late Robert Clanton Smith and Delia Cudd Smith. A graduate of Spartanburg High School, Class of 1942, she worked for Southern Bell until she retired. She met her husband at Southern Bell, where he also worked, after he came back from World War II. Laura was a member of Pioneer’s Club and First Baptist Church of Columbia, where she was active in the Joy of Living Sunday School class.

Surviving are her son, William H. Arledge, Jr.; special niece, Marie Smith Wicker, and an additional niece and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William H. Arledge, Sr.; sister, Delia S. Anderson; and brothers, Robert C. Smith, Jr. and James Dean Smith.
