

CHAPIN - Michael V. Muench, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, age 87, of Chapin SC, passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2022 with his wife Janice at his side. Born in Braintree, Essex, England to Florence (Amy) and Charles Muench, he moved his young family from England to the United States in 1967. Mike was a pioneer in the microelectronic semiconductor industry, working at Transitron in Wakefield, MA, National Cash Register Company in Dayton, OH, Tau Laboratories/DuPont in Kokomo IN and then Dupont in Danbury, CT. He was a General Manager of semiconductor manufacturing plants in Seoul, South Korea, Shanghai, China and Singapore. Mike enjoyed coaching youth soccer in Ohio and making grandfather clocks. He retired to South Carolina in 2000 where he and Janice devoted their retirement years to rescuing greyhounds. Mike served for a time as the President of the Columbia chapter of Greyhound Pets of America.
Mike is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice (Watson); three children, Dr. Amanda Termuhlen of Minneapolis, MN, Simon Muench, PE (Cindy) of Winnweiler Germany, and Dr. Tim Muench (Dr. Mary Anne Vonderhaar) of New Lebanon, NJ; six grandchildren, Chelsea Sanderson (Michael, AIA), Dr. Ryan Rauck (Lisa), Dr. Corinne Rauck, Calli Moran, Kayley Muench, Marissa Muench; and two great grandsons (Carter Rauck and Jack Sanderson). Mike is also survived by two sisters, one sister-in-law and multiple nieces and nephews in the UK. Mike is predeceased by his parents, five older siblings, and his beloved grandson, Evan Muench.
No service is planned; there will be a family remembrance in the autumn. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite animal rescue organization. The family would like to thank Lutheran Hospice and Care by Generations for their care of Mike.
