Michele Eve Bender of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 62 on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Michele grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, and graduated from Clemson University in 1983 with a degree in microbiology. After college, she lived in Oconee County before relocating back to Charleston in the late 1990s.
Michele was a beloved mother of two daughters, Mariah Price of Columbia and Krista Donald of Charleston, and two grandsons, Max and Jeremiah. Her enduring legacy is marked by a deep curiosity, intelligence, and unyielding passion for knowledge. She was, at her core, a dedicated researcher who was captivated by the world’s mysteries. Her love for science was a familial thread, woven through generations.
In her youth, Michele sought out adventure, discovering healing in the embrace of nature. Whether by the tranquil shores of the beach or amidst the majestic mountains, she thrived. The outdoors held a special place in her heart, where she indulged in hobbies such as shell hunting, hiking, rock mining, and cycling. A poet at heart, Michele found profound joy in the written word. Her constant companion was a journal that faithfully captured her thoughts and emotions, a testament to her lifelong commitment to self-expression. Michele’s beauty, inner strength, and kindheartedness were admired by all who knew her. Her generous spirit was a rare and precious gift, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives.
In her later years, Michele battled mental illness, but – with the love and support of her family – pulled herself back from the darkness and built a wonderful new life for herself in Lexington where she spent her remaining years. A woman of unwavering faith, Michele believed that through the Lord, all things were possible. As we bid farewell to Michele, her absence leaves a void in our lives, but her memory will forever illuminate our hearts and minds.
