Her former students still remember her as their Sunday School teacher. She served in Women’s Ministries and several church positions: Secretary and Treasurer of the Adult Sunday School Class, President of the Christian Education Department, Vice President of the Ladies Auxiliary, and President of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Orine was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #7 in Lexington, SC.
After graduating from Irmo High School in 1944, she attended Columbia Business College. She was employed by H. L. Green Company, better known as Silvers in Columbia, SC. Later she was employed by F. W. Woolworth Company. In 1947, she was employed at Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Company, which was then in the Arcade Building on Main Street in Columbia. She worked with Colonial Life for several years in the Data Processing Department.
When a General Electric Plant (GE) was built in Irmo, she accepted a position in Data Processing as a Computer Operator. Orine completed her career with General Electric, which later became North American Phillips, and later Mepco Electric. Orine saw many innovations come and go. Orine retired March 1, 1989, with a combined 32 years of service with GE and GE’s successor companies.
Orine enjoyed sewing, making crafts for church bazaars, and flower arranging. She enjoyed working in the yard, especially with her flowers. Since she was the oldest sister, she was the meal planner. Orine continued to prepare meals for the family after the death of her mother, as long her health permitted. She was quick to pray when a family member was sick. She was a prayer warrior for her family and others. Orine was faithful in her daily Bible reading and devotions.
Orine enjoyed dining out and shopping with her sisters. Orine and her sisters did everything together, and most importantly, they attended church every Sunday.
Orine will be missed dearly by her family, church, community, and her many friends.
