Robert Blake Brooks was born 35 years ago on December 5, 1986. He died on April 23, 2022. Blake began life as a loving, delightful, full of life, adventurous little boy. He loved being outdoors building tree houses, exploring and skateboarding. Family and friends were always a priority to Blake, even as a child. His sweet, humble, loving heart and desire to help others gave encouragement to all those who knew him.
When Blake was sixteen, he experienced major injuries from a car wreck that led him to an addiction of painkillers. This tragic event led him to a life that would long be a battle with substance abuse. Although he lived everyday with physical pain and the whispers of addiction, he loved life and never missed the opportunity to tell people how proud he was of them. He went on to technical school for welding and made a career of it. He worked for an agency that sent him to many different sites. Soon, Blake became respected in his field of pipe fitting.
There was never a job that Blake couldn’t do. He was a master at being a handy man and wanted to help everyone with anything. He always looked for opportunities to help others. The family knew that Blake was the “go to guy” for all repairs needed around the house. His knowledge, “jump in and fix it” attitude and heart bigger than life was welcomed by all.
Blake’s biggest achievement, however, was his son Henry Thurman Brooks. His greatest joy was spending time with Henry, snuggling on the couch, climbing playground forts and just sitting on the ground having conversations between the two of them. Nothing delighted him more or was more important to him than Henry. He was the light in Blake’s life!
He is survived by his Mother, Vicki Ann Brooks, his Father, Robert Alan Brooks, his son, Henry Thurman Brooks. Blake has two brothers, Ben Brooks (Laura) and Barrett Brooks (Madison), nieces, Brody and Berkely, nephews, Bauer and Baron, Grandparents Betty Linder (Bubba) and C.E. Linder (Paw Paw), His Aunt Becky and Uncle Chuck Jackson, Aunt Carla Carmack, Aunt Lynn Carmack and cousins, Brooke Sprayberry (Brice), Jason Carmack (Stacey) and Melissa Goodbourn (Johnathan) and his dog, Nova. He was predeceased by his Grandparents Addie Mae Carmack, Comar Thurman Carmack, Robert Freeman Brooks and Uncle Michael Carmack.
There are several people in Blake’s life that I know he would want mentioned. His best friend, Ben Livingston, his girlfriend, Lauren Lee, his young friend Mikey Bowen and Henry’s mom, Elizabeth Bruce. He truly loved each of you and know that you made a difference in his life.
A private service and celebration of Blake’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Homeward Bound Pet Rescue.
